The candles' wick accepts the spark
that brings it to its measured life,
a flickering fire-life
that packs joy and sorrow –
the light, heat, beauty of fire,
with the burn-danger when too close.
Joy and sorrow emphasize each other
to the last

Joy and sorrow — two sides of the same coin. One cannot exist without the other, and your poem makes that point well

Thank you! and yes, the two sides of the coin have been on my mind a lot lately. So they are, naturally, a part of what I write too

The burning wick.. what a great metaphor for life.. a measured end, the joy of burning and the sorrow of having burnt.. Love this.

The flicker of the candle is an inspiring image that causes us to reflect on life, and I agree that it is often made up of joy and sorrow. Great image!

Thank you 🙂 though I never really thought about it quite like this, your pointing it out makes me think that it's natural for the candle to do that, having an ever-changing quality to its flame

A perfect balance – and very very interesting contrast too. I once wrote a piece on candles and it clearly reminds me of that. I am glad that you could join.

Thank you 🙂 I actually think life is one big contrast… I would have liked a link though (to your candle). Not only you and I are different people but also from different cultures. Sharing views/thoughts about the same thing can be mind expanding/flexing
🙂

. Anna :o]And so it is – joy and sorrow exist together

Obviously I agree 🙂 but it's the balance between them that's been on my mind lately
