At the Beginning of Winter

The sun wakes up later each day –
some times covered in a woolly blanket,
at other times revealed.

And at night the thunder rolls and approaches,
but the cold does not yet pinch with frost fingers.
This is but the beginning of the winter…

Fear not of being swept away with the rain –
you are not a tree planted on the brink of a raging waterfall,
but a steady rock in the heart of a canopying forest.

And even if the whole world storms –
at home there can be the comfort of the routine –
like the sudoku in the papers; washing the dishes;
the morning coffee, accompanied by a bird choir…

The wait might tear the nerves,
to the sound of drums and light of jagged strings,
but as the tempest dies so will its' wrath
and the calm will re-install the peace.
Nature will go on its' way, till the longest night.
Following that, the sun will wake up earlier each day.

בתחילת החורף

השמש מתעוררת מאוחר יותר מדי יום –
לפעמים מכוסה בשמיכה צמרירית
ולעיתים גלויה.

ולעת ליל הרעם מתגלגל ומתקרב,
אך הקור עדיין לא צובט באצבעות של כפור.
זו רק תחילתו של החורף…

אל לך לחשוש להיסחף עם הגשם –
אינך עץ נטוע על שפת מפל גועש,
אלא סלע איתן בלב-לבו של יער מסוכך.

ואף אם כל העולם סוער –
בביתך יכולה להיות נחמת השגרה –
כמו הסודוקו בעיתון; הדחת הכלים;
קפה של בוקר, מלווה במקהלת ציפורים…

ההמתנה אולי מורטת עצבים,
לקול תופים ולאור מיתרים משוננים,
אך בתום הסוּפה יגווע גם זעפה
והרגיעה תשליט מחדש את השלווה.
הטבע ימשיך בדרכו, עד הלילה הארוך ביותר.
לאחריו, השמש תתעורר מוקדם יותר מדי יום.
