בתחילה קלטתי את האימא | At first I caught the mom

מהר מאד קלטתי גם את המיניאטורות | pretty soon I caught also the miniatures

There are three kittens, and are so quick, I barely managed to snap shots. Believe it or not, the following is the best photo of all three together that I could get. Normally I see them as blurs (more so than this).

and suddenly I caught on to something – the moms' job is much more difficult with a single kitten, to which she must devote (almost) her entire time. When the mom deals with a trio, her job is easier, by much, for their capability to train at tussling all by themselves…

ולפתע קלטתי משהו – מלאכתה של אימא קשה יותר עם גור-יחיד, לו עליה להקדיש (כמעט) את כל זמנה. כאשר האימא מטופלת בשלישיה, מלאכתה קלה יותר, בהרבה, מהיותם מסוגלים להתאמן בהתגוששות בכוחות עצמם…

אווזים אפורים | Greylag Geese

On May 19th this year I walked through the park and I thought I saw a couple of Greylag Geese with a younger goose.

ב-19/5 השנה הסתובבתי בפארק והיה נדמה לי כי ראיתי זוג אווזים אפורים עם אווז צעיר.

The three were rather far, and with my weak camera, I couldn't be sure.

השלושה היו רחוקים למדי, ועם המצלמה החלשה שלי, לא יכולתי להיות בטוחה.

And there, I visited again on May 30th and found the geese again. This time it seemed there was not just the single young goose

והנה, ביקרתי שוב ב-30/5 ומצאתי את האווזים שוב. והפעם, נדמה שלא היה רק אווז צעיר יחיד

on which the mature one kept an eye (meaning – he kept his eye on me, as relating to the young one).

עליו האווז הבוגר שם עין (כלומר – שם עליי עין ביחס אליו).

Even advanced a (threatening?) step towards me…

ואפילו התקדם צעד (מאיים?) לעברי…

suddenly I realized there might be another young one, to the left of the watchful guard…

לפתע קלטתי ש-אולי יש אווז צעיר שני, משמאל לשומר העירני…

I haven't a clue how many times I passed through this passage during the last six and something years, but only recently I realized there is a skylight there. Well, what is not exactly at eye level, or a bit above, simply does not catch in sight. But there, all of a sudden I realized there is something to see up there.

אין לי מושג כמה פעמים עברתי במעבר הזה בשש ומשהו השנים האחרונות, אבל רק לפני זמן-מה קלטתי שיש שם צוהר (או – חלון בתקרה). ובכן, מה שלא ממש בגובה העין, או מעט מעל, פשוט לא נקלט בשדה הראייה. אבל הנה, התברר לי לפתע שיש מה לראות שם למעלה.

I might have been ready to bet that not many of the passers by even realized it is there…

The other night I heard some growling, almost experimental. I didn't know what to think. The next night, again, I heard the growling. I hoped to get a chance to investigate. And indeed, the next morning I spotted the kitten in the back yard. Back to his training scene of long ago. Although alone, still training fiercely. Hunting:

באחד הלילות שמעתי נהמות, כמו ניסיוניות. לא ידעתי מה לחשוב. למחרת בלילה שוב שמעתי נהמות. קיוויתי שיזדמן לי לבדוק. ואכן, ממש למחרת בבוקר קלטתי את הגור בחצר. חזר אל זירת האימונים מן העבר. אמנם לבדו, אך ממשיך להתאמן במרץ. בצייד:

התגנבות | approaching stealthily

and there, of a sudden, I heard him growling while leaping on… well, I didn't really see on what, probably a dove (doves do dare sometimes to nosh on kitty dry food). And of course, the dove (or any other bird) flew away…

והנה, לפתע-פתאום שמעתי אותו נוהם עם הזינוק על… לא ממש ראיתי על מה, כנראה יונה (יונים אכן מעזות לפעמים להגיע ולנשנש מהאוכל של החתולים). וכמובן, היונה (או כל ציפור אחרת) עפה משם…

well, a bit of a misinterpretation of the growling business (or had he seen too many dogs in the public garden out back?). Mom did teach him hunting well, silently*. Or is it Teenage Rebellion? At least he found his voice and that too the kitten is training enthusiastically and energetically…

נו, טעה מעט בפירוש הנהמות (אולי ראה יותר מדי כלבים בגינה הציבורית מאחור?). אימא שלו לימדה אותו היטב לצוד, בשקט*. או שמא זה שלב המרד? אבל לפחות מצא את קולו וגם בזה הגור מתאמן בהתלהבות ומרץ…

* Exactly three months before the above photos, the kitten hunted another cat (NOT mom), that for some reason cooperate with him. And of course – in perfect silence.

* בדיוק שלושה חודשים לפני הצילומים לעיל, הגור צד חתולה אחרת (לא האימא), שמשום מה שיתפה איתו פעולה. וכמובן – בשקט מופתי.

That, of course, is a quote of the unforgettable Roger Zelazny (second Amber half, Sign of Chaos, end of chapter 7).
Sometimes, this quote fits.
Like now.

Hundreds of missiles on me and mine and 5 fatalities so far.

Starting at 3 in the morning – alarm siren after alarm siren – the neighbors 'got' some night sports. Going down the stairs and back up with the end of the siren, only to go back down again almost immediately. Not nice. I almost joined them. I even got dressed to go out, opened the door and…

it ended. After almost an hour.
Maybe tonight, if I dress quicker, it will end quicker?

My real worry is my mom. But I read in this morning newspaper where the missile fell in her town and it is nowhere near her. I'll let her rest a while longer. In her case the 'sport' is less grave – only from the bedroom to the residential secure space. However, a woman over 80 and not exactly in good health, is beyond Not Nice, but complicated.

I was planing to post something totally different today. But I don't feel like smiling. That post can wait another day. On the other hand – I haven't written at all in a while. So I thought if anyone worries about me I should say something.
And there, I said it. I'm fine.
I just don't feel like smiling.

הדאגה האמיתית שלי ממוקדת באימא שלי. אבל קראתי בעיתון הבוקר היכן נפל הטיל בעיר שלה וזה לא בקרבתה. אניח לה לנוח עוד זמן-מה. במקרה שלה ה'התעמלות' חמורה פחות – רק מחדר שינה אל ממ"ד. אבל-ברם-אולם, אישה מעל שמונים ולא ממש בבריאות טובה, וזה כבר לא 'לא נעים', אלא ממש מורכב.

תכננתי להעלות היום פוסט אחר לגמרי. אבל לא מתחשק לי לחייך. אותו פוסט יחכה ליום אחר. מצד שני – מזמן לא כתבתי כלום. לכן חשבתי שאם יש מי שדואג לי אולי כדאי שאגיד משהו.
והנה, אמרתי. אני בסדר.
רק לא מתחשק לי לחייך.

The other day I happened upon a public garden I no longer visit. This time I had a reason to pass through to another exit. Of a sudden I caught something new to me:

באחד האתמולים הזדמנתי אל גן ציבורי בו אני כבר לא מבקרת. הפעם הייתה לי סיבה לעבור בו אל יציאה אחרת. ולפתע קלטתי משהו חדש לי:

A mural sprang up there in my absence. And made me wonder – does he intend to help her down, or does she intend to help him up?

ציור קיר צץ שם בהיעדרי. וגרם לי לתהות – האם הבחור מתכוון לעזור לה לרדת, או שהבחורה מתכוונת לעזור לו לעלות?
