"It is a truth universally acknowledged" that everyone, on the way here or there within the public domain, will meet options to sit a while, rest from walking. I've already brought to this blog several examples of chairs and benches.
However, this is the first seat I encountered that seems to have needed an explanation, example and demonstration…
זו אמת ידועה לכל כי כל אחד, בדרכו לפה או לשם במרחב הציבורי, יפגוש אפשרויות לשבת לרגע, לנוח מההליכה. וכבר הספקתי להביא אי-אילו דוגמאות לכיסאות וספסלים גם אל זה הבלוג.
אבל-ברם-אולם, זה המושב הראשון בו נתקלתי בדרכי, שכפי הנראה נזקק להסבר, הדגמה והמחשה…

התרצו לשבת 2 Would you like to sit
Ever since the beginning of the Covid-19 calamity I've often enough been passing along this street. A quiet side street, that allows plenty of social distancing (between me, myself and I mostly, when I'm alone in the street). I have also always known that there is a minuscule public garden, with a brown, old and boring bench. On one of the mornings last week I thought I caught something else.
I approached.
I peeked.
I had another look.
מתחילת הפורענות הקורונית, אני עוברת ברחוב הזה לא מעט. רחוב צדדי ושקט, המאפשר שפע של ריחוק חברתי (ביני לביני לרוב, בהיותי היחידה ברחוב). ומאז ומתמיד ידעתי שיש ברחוב הזה גינה ציבורית מזערית, ושיש בה ספסל חוּם, ישן ומשעמם. באחד הבקרים בשבוע שעבר היה נדמה לי שקלטתי משהו אחר.
התקרבתי.
הצצתי.
העפתי מבט נוסף.

Optical Illusions

The title does not refer to this bench.
Here's what happened: English readers have no way of knowing that there's been a local change in public transport, which prompted me to go out to more and more long walks. On such a one, I encountered a public garden, totally new to me. In which I found this bench, that I thought special.
I was there twice – on my way to and from. Both times I tried different angles of the bench/es. Finally it seemed to me that in the above photo the bench looks better than the other photos.
But my first time there, after the initial surprise the bench/es caused wore off (there were several benches), I looked away and…
nearly fell off my feet. Honestly. Because my glance took this in:
Is it just me and my challenged eyes, or does the floor seem rising and falling in sharp angles to you too?
And I'm not exaggerating, a closer look made me dizzy. To feel better I had to look up to the horizon. To walk, I had to feel the floor with my feet, to convince myself it is indeed flat.
And I don't get it – who could have thought this was a good idea to tile a walk in a public garden like this?

אשליות אופטיות
הכותרת לא מתייחסת אל הספסל.
מעשה שהיה, כך היה: לאחרונה, כפי שקוראי הבלוג אולי ניחשו, אני יוצאת ליותר ויותר הליכות ארוכות. באחת מהן, נתקלתי בגינה ציבורית חדשה לי לחלוטין, ובה מצאתי את הספסל לעיל, שנראה לי מיוחד.
פעמיים עברתי שם – בדרך אל, ובדרך חזרה. ובשתי הפעמים ניסיתי זוויות שונות של הספסל/ים. אך בסופו של דבר נראה לי כי בצילום לעיל הספסל נראה טוב יותר.
אך בפעם הראשונה, לאחר שפגה הפתעת המפגש הראשוני עם הספסל/ים הללו (היו כמה וכמה), הפניתי מבט ו…
כמעט נפלתי. בכנות. היות ומבטי נפל על זה:
האם זו רק אני והעיניים המאותגרות שלי, או שמא גם לך נראית הרצפה כמורכבת מפסגות ושקעים בזוויות חדות?
ואני לא מגזימה, במבט בוחן יותר פשוט חטפתי סחרחורת. כדי להתאושש, היה עלי להרים את המבט אל האופק. כדי ללכת, הייתי חייבת להרגיש את הרצפה בכפות רגלי, להשתכנע בזה שזו אכן רצפה שטוחה.
ואני לא מבינה את זה – מי יכול היה לחשוב שזה רעיון טוב לרצף כך שביל בגינה ציבורית?

מפגש חשאי | A Clandestine Encounter
To photograph the chairs of my previous post, I went to the park several times. And yesterday morning I was surprised.
כדי לצלם את הכיסאות מהפוסט הקודם, הלכתי אל הפארק מספר פעמים. ואתמול בבוקר זכיתי למפגש מפתיע.

Just like that, without any advance warning, the Daily Post announced its' closing.
When I first joined the WordPress, there were several options to (well, sort of) post an invitation to other bloggers to stop by and visit a post. These options gradually dwindled to three. One of which is aimed more at new bloggers. Therefore only two could suit this blog. Lately I've been inviting other bloggers to my own blog only via the Weekly Photo Challenge.
The last of which will come up this week.
Before it does, I have no clue if I'll participate.
Whether I do or don't, on the one hand – I have no real basis of complaint.
The WordPress is aimed at tens of millions of bloggers. Therefore, some inside-initiated activities (such as forums) and a following mechanism based on some sort of personal messaging system are simply inapplicable.
The Following system, which the planners of this platform managed to think of, is the Reader.
On the other hand – the Reader never seemed to me as especially effective. Bloggers tend to follow so many blogs that their Reader is inundated, which in turn seems as an encouragement to miss this post or the other. Especially, also, if a blogger didn't post exactly at the time the follower checks their Reader (or around that time).
In my case – with only one local reader and over sixty others, some of which are inactive blogs, others tend to miss posts, and with no place left to invite others here, I'm not convinced there's much point for me to go on.
Besides, stopping the activities of the Daily Post seems to me the sure way towards gradually stopping WordPress in its' entirety.
With no inside-initiated activities to encourage traffic, only the established groups around one or more bloggers will survive.
With no inside-initiated activities to encourage traffic, new/future bloggers won't manage to find anything, even these established bloggers' activities.
With no inside-initiated activities to encourage traffic,natural fallout of veteran bloggers will gradually diminish even the activities of these established bloggers.
And all that's left for me to add is –
What a shame.

ושורות:
ככה סתם וללא כל התרעה מראש, בלוג הבית הודיע פתאום על סגירת שעריו בסוף החודש.
כאשר הצטרפתי אל ה-WP לראשונה, היו מספר אפשרויות אותן ראיתי כמעיין פורום הבלוגיה, כלומר – מקום בו אפשר להזמין בלוגרים אחרים לביקור-הצצה. אפשרויות אלו הלכו והצטמצמו אל שלוש. אחת מהן נועדה לבלוגים חדשים. לכן שתיים מהן בלבד יכולות היו להתאים לי. לאחרונה נעזרתי רק ב'אתגר הצילום השבועי'.
האחרון שבהם יעלה ביום חמישי.
בטרם יעלה ממש, אין לי מושג אם אשתתף.
בין אם כן ובין אם לאו, מצד אחד – אין לי כל יסוד אמיתי לטענה.
ה-WP נועד לעשרות מיליוני משתמשים. לכן, גם פעילויות יזומות פנים-מערכתיות אחרות (כגון פורומים למיניהם) וגם שיטת מעקב/מנוי מבוססת מסר אישי (כזה או אחר) פשוט לא ישימים.
שיטת המעקב, עליה הצליחו לחשוב המתכננים של הפלטפורמה, זו שיטת ה'קורא'.
מצד שני – ה'קורא' מעולם לא נראה לי יעיל במיוחד. אנשים עוקבים אחרי כל כך הרבה בלוגים עד כי ה'קורא' שלהם מוצף, מה שתמיד נדמה לי כמעודד החמצה של פוסטים יחידים. במיוחד אם בלוגר זה או אחר לא קלע בול אל השעה בה המנוי/עוקב בודק את ה'קורא'.
ובמקרה שלי – עם מנוי ישראלי יחיד ועוד כשישים ומשהו מנויים אחרים, מהם בלוגים בלתי פעילים ומהם כאלו שבעיקר מחמיצים, וללא כל מקום להזמין אחרים, אני לא משוכנעת שיש לי טעם להמשיך.
מלבד זאת, הפסקת הפעילות של בלוג הבית נראית לי כדרך המלך אל השבתה הדרגתית של ה-WP בכללותו.
בהיעדר גורם פנים-מערכתי לעידוד תנועה, תשרודנה רק קבוצות סגורות של פעילויות יזומות של בלוגרים מסוימים.
בהיעדר גורם פנים-מערכתי לעידוד תנועה, בלוגרים חדשים/עתידיים, לא יצליחו למצוא דבר, גם לא את פעילויות הבלוגרים הנ"ל.
בהיעדר גורם פנים-מערכתי לעידוד תנועה, נשירה טבעית של בלוגרים ותיקים תצמצם בהדרגה גם את פעילויות אותם בלוגרים.
וכל שנותר לי להוסיף זה –
כמה חֲבָל.
