During the last three years, around this time, I found myself strolling among old to really antic cars, in the annual show of the local car-club. And of course – I've uploaded photos to the blog. This year, naturally – Corona and the Lockdown – the event was canceled. And I miss it. So, I went over photos of past shows, and found a car, of yesteryear's show, that for some reason I haven't put up yet.

בשלושת השנים האחרונות, בתקופה זו של השנה, מצאתי את עצמי מסתובבת בין מכוניות ישנות עד עתיקות של ממש, בתצוגה השנתית של מועדון החמש. וכמובן – העליתי תמונות אל הבלוג. השנה, מן הסתם – קורונה וסגר – האירוע בוטל. וזה חסר לי. לכן, עברתי על תמונות מתערוכות העבר, ומצאתי מכונית, מהשנה שעברה, שלא העליתי לכאן משום מה.

I may have said in the past – I would not drive a convertible (too many restrictions – putting up the hair so it wouldn't slap the face; protecting the eyes from the wind; and how can anyone breath driving like this?). Though I shot quite a few snaps of this kind of car…

יתכן כי כבר אמרתי פעם – לא הייתי נוהגת במכונית פתוחה (יותר מדי מגבלות – לאסוף היטב את השיער כדי שלא יצליף בפנים; להגן על העיניים מפני הרוח; ואיך בכלל אפשר לנשום בנהיגה כזו?). אם כי, צילמתי לא מעט מכוניות כאלו…

While walking along the line of cars, I was thinking of how to deal with with this year's show. Should I start with the oldest car shown?

בעודי מתקדמת לאורך שורת המכוניות, חשבתי איך להתמודד עם התערוכה של השנה הזאת. האם להתחיל עם מה שנראה לי המכונית הכי זקנה בתצוגה?

Or would I point out my third love-of-my-life from my childhood? (for the first and second, click here, from yester-year).

או שמא לציין את אהבת חיי השלישית מהילדות? (לראשונה ולשנייה, קליק פה, מהשנה שעברה).

Pink isn't really my color. Yet I did love the car.

וורוד זה לא בדיוק הצבע שלי. אבל אהבתי את המכונית.

However, it's name told me nothing. I never heard/read/saw this name anywhere. And I was very sorry there was no detail-note on it.

אם כי השם שלה לא אמר לי כלום. מעולם לא שמעתי/קראתי/ראיתי את השם הזה בשום מקום. ומאד הצטערתי על שלא היה עליה פתק-פרטים.

So I went on line. And found Borgward.

על כן אל הרשת פניתי. ומצאתי את בּוֹרגוַרד (באנגלית).

This could be the 50's Isabella. Or not. Like I mentioned – there was no detail-note. But since this was a German company. I thought to mention one of the very few details I know about this language. W in German is pronounced as V (while V is pronounced as F. And I have no idea how they pronounce the actual F!).

ויכול להיות שזו האיזבלה של שנות החמישים. או שלא (הפעם בעברית). כפי שכבר הזכרתי – לא היה פתק-פרטים. אך היות וזו חברה גרמנית, חשבתי לציין את אחד הפרטים הבודדים שאני יודעת על השפה הזו. W בגרמנית מבוטאת כ-V (בעוד ש-V מבוטאת כ-F. ואין לי מושג איך הם מבטאים את ה-F עצמה!).

And this is it for this year. The weather was too hot, I was too bothered, and even though my patience reservoirs are normally deep, this time they ran out fast. Although I was happy to meet a new car (to me).

וזהו זה השנה. היה חם מדי, הייתי טרודה מדי ואף כי בדרך-כלל מאגרי הסבלנות שלי עמוקים, הפעם נגמרו מהר. גם אם שמחתי להכיר מכונית חדשה (לי).

During his own childhood my dad got bit by the motor-bug. Any engine with wheels was worthy of his attention.

אבא שלי, עוד מילדותו, נדבק בחיידק המוטורי. כל מנוע מחובר אל גלגלים מצא ראוי לתשומת לבו.

As a little girl, I played along with him in boys games, like recognize the car by sight or symbol (but the sound of the engine? That was when I reminded dad that I really was a girl, not a boy).

כילדה, שיתפתי איתו פעולה במשחקי בנים, כמו זהי את המכונית לפי הצורה והסמל (אם כי זהי את רעש המנוע? בשלב הזה הזכרתי לאבא שאני בכל זאת ילדה, לא ילד).

Dad was subscribed to a car-magazine from abroad. Encouraged by our games, he let me leaf through it too.

אבא היה מנוי על כתב עט מוטורי מחו"ל. מעודד מהמשחקים שלנו, הרשה לי לעלעל.

והתאהבתי במבט ראשון | And it was love at first sight

And being only a child, unknown facts could not confuse me even a bit. Which is why I had no problem recognizing the similarity between the love of my life (as was then) and what looked to me (then) almost as her smaller version.

ומהיותי ילדה, עובדות עלומות לא יכולות היו לבלבל אותי ולוּ במעט. על כן לא הייתה לי בעיה לזהות את הדמיון בין אהבת חיי (דאז) לבין מה שנראה בעיניי (דאז) כמעט כמו גרסתה המוקטנת.

Maybe the models I met this time are not exactly the ones of my childhood (which I remember as more similar), but there is still something in the wide front, tapering back and in profile, that at least to me seems similar still.

אולי הדגמים שפגשתי הפעם אינם בדיוק דגמי ילדותי (אותם אני זוכרת כהרבה יותר דומים), אבל יש משהו בחרטום הרחב, באחוריים המוצרים, כמו גם בפרופיל, אשר לכל הפחות בעיניי עדיין נראה די דומה.
מה דעתך?

And how happy I was to meet both the Citroën DS and the Porsche 911 this time! These were exactly the two cars I wished I saw in the previous show, which is the reason I decided to bring them up on the last post in the series of this year's exhibit.

וכמה שמחתי לפגוש גם את הסיטרואן DS, וגם את הפורש 911 הפעם! אלו בדיוק שתי המכוניות שייחלתי לפגוש בתצוגה הקודמת, לכן החלטתי להעלות אותן אל הפוסט האחרון בסדרה השנה.

And what will I wish for next year? Maybe a Bentley? Or a Lamborghini? I don't know. But I'm sure that next year too (as was this year and the one before it) the plethora will be overwhelming. So I will wish not to be too amazed by it, and to not miss anything.

יגואר | Jaguar

If I have any criticism, it has to do with the details. Personally I like knowing what I am looking at. Not just make, but also model and year of production (at the very least). And in many cases these details were lacking. Like in this case.

אם יש לי מילת ביקורת, הרי זו נוגעת אל הפרטים. אישית, אני אוהבת לדעת על מה אני מסתכלת. לא רק שם יצרן, אלא גם שם דגם ושנת ייצור (לכל הפחות). ובמקרים רבים הפרטים חסרו לי. כמו כאן.

This separated Jaguar had a board of photos, showing it before restoration. But no other details. What a shame.

אל היגואר המובדלת הזו הצטרף לוח צילומים, אשר הבהיר את מצבה טרום שיפוץ. אך לא פרטים נוספים. וחבל.

I have absolutely no clue whatsoever why this car pushes my nostalgic button, seeing as I was born more than a decade after it…

אין לי מושג למה דווקא המכונית הזו לוחצת לי על כפתור הנוסטלגיה, במיוחד כאשר נולדתי יותר מעשור אחריה…

In the bitching corner this time – the people. What can I say… there were tens of signs asking not to touch the cars. Yet people touched, opened, peeked in, slammed, leaned on, even got on steps (if the vehicle had one), surrounded the cars and clung to them.
Most of these cars are very important to their owners. Some of which have worked on them by the sweat of their brow. And there the visitors were, despite the signs, treating the cars as their own. Unbelievable.

But this is it. The bitching over and it has to be said I got back from there happy.

בפינת הקיטוּר הפעם – האנשים. מה אגיד-אומר-אדבר… עשרות שלטים ביקשו שלא לגעת במכוניות. ואילו האנשים… נגעו, פתחו, הציצו, טרקו, נשענו, אפילו עלו על מדרגות (אם לרכב הייתה מדרגה), הקיפו, נצמדו.
רוב המכוניות הללו חשובות מאד לבעליהן. חלקם ממש עבדו על המכונית בזיעת אפם. והנה, על אף השילוט, רבים התנהגו עם המכוניות כבשלהם. פשוט לא יאומן.

אבל זהו. נגמר הקיטור ויש לציין כי חזרתי משם די מאושרת.

Every year there is this meeting of antique car owners, where the cars are put on show. This year I have many pickings. If you're not interested, read you in a few more posts.

כן. מועדון החמש. השנה הבאתי שלל רב. אחלק אותו למנות. אציין מראש – הסדר יהיה לפי סדר הצילום (למעט מספר הפתעות, אותן אשמור לסוף).

I have absolutely no idea which car this is, but I liked its' propeller…

אין לי מושג איזו מכונית זו, אבל מצא חן לי הפרופלור…

(וסיפרו לי כי זו סיטרואן אמי | and I was told this is Citroën Ami)

And here's a Chevrolet (V8 ?), looking good:

And a Classic Tiffany…

I couldn't find information on it, all I know is what was written on its' back.

לא מצאתי מידע על המכונית, כל שיש לי זה מה שנכתב עליה מאחור.

Well, the next sight amused me. Though no wonder the girl is interested, it seems just her size of a car.

ובכן, אותי המראה הבא שעשע. אם כי לא פלא שהילדה מתעניינת, המכונית הזו נראית בדיוק במידה שלה.

However the next is an automobile (maybe of 1957. I forgot to note it to myself while there and in the photo the sign with the details isn't all that clear).

אבל הבא בתור כבר ממש כלי רכב (אולי משנת 1957. שכחתי לרשום לעצמי כאשר הייתי שם ובצילום, שלט הפרטים לא לגמרי ברור).

But this next one is simply wonderful, no need for more words. (And between you and me – this one is more like what I expected to see at such a show).

אם כי זו פשוט נהדרת, ואין צורך בעוד מילים. (ובינינו – נראית הרבה יותר כמו מה שציפיתי לראות במן תצוגה שכזו).

Once a year the local old-cars-club puts on a show. This was it for this year and I gathered some more impressions. Tomorrow or the day after I'll post them too.
But the disappointments? Though I got there early, I couldn't reach every car without some people getting in my lens. I also don't understand why the vehicles had to be so crowded together. And lastly – too bad my own dreams were not there (no Porsche 911 nor Citroen DS… oh, well, maybe next year).

כן, זה היה המפגש השנתי של מועדון החמש, משם אספתי עוד כמה רשמים. מחר-מחרתיים אעלה גם אותם.
אך האכזבות? למרות שהגעתי די מוקדם, לא אל כל מכונית הגעתי בזמן לקלוט אותה ללא אנשים. בנוסף, לא הבנתי למה היה צורך לצופף גם את כלי הרכב עצמם. ולסיום – כמה חבל שהחלומות שלי בלטו בחסרונם (מה, אין בארץ אף פורש 911 או סיטרואן DS לרפואה? כמה חבל… אולי בשנה הבאה).
